Santa Cruz trek A very popular and short trek in to the Cordillera Blanca with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, lagoons and a demanding ascend to the pass “Punta Union” at an altitude of 4759 m / 15,613 ft.
PROGRAM:
- We recommend you to do at least a 1-Day hike in altitude to be acclimatized before doing this tour.
- We can offer you different hikes.
This is a very good hike to acclimatize. From Huaraz we go by car to the village of Pitec. On the way we pass several picturesque villages, such as Unchus and Llupa. At 3850 m /12,631 ft we start our easy hike up to Lake Churup with its blue colors sitting at an altitude of 4440 m /14,566 ft ling over steep rocks. And then we come back to Huaraz by the same way.
ITINERARY
Day 01: Huaraz – Cashapampa – Llamacorral 3760 m / 12,335 ft
Starting in Huaraz, we take a bus to Cashapamba at 2800 m / 9,186 ft. We then ascend through a closed valley to reach Santa Cruz valley and reach Llamacoral at 3760 m / 12,335 ft. 4- hours aprox.
Day 02: Llamacorral – Taullipampa 4250 m / 13,943 ft
A relaxed walk through picturesque Santa Cruz valley takes us through Polylepis forest. We pass two beautiful lakes, Chinancocha and Orconchocha, before we reach our camp at Taullipampa at 4200 m / 13,779 ft. 6-7 hours aprox.
Day 03: Taullipampa – Punta union pass 4750 m / 15,583 ft – Cachina Pampa 3750 m / 12,303 ft
We walk up to Punta Union pass at 4750 / 15,583 ft, which rewards us with spectacular views over Taulliraju, Quitaraju and other mountains. From the pass, the road leads us down to our camp at Huari Pampa (3750 m / 12,303 ft). 7 hours aprox.
Day 04: Cachinapampa – Vaquería – Huaraz
We descend by the valley Huaripampa until to Vaqueria. finally back to Huaraz transportation 6 to 7hrs approx.
